DESCRIPTION:<p align="center"><b>Coal Creek Theater of Louisville</b></p><p align="center">Presents</p><p align="center"><b><i>Blessed Assurance</i></b> <br>by Laddy Sartin<br>Directed by Kirsten Jorgensen-Smith</p><p align="center"><b>February 22nd – March 9th, 2019</b></p><p><i>The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.</i> -- <b><i>United States Constitution, Amendment XV, Section 1</i></b><b><i>.&nbsp; </i></b><b>February 3, 1870</b></p><p><b><i>&nbsp;</i></b></p><p>It is the turbulent Freedom Summer of 1964. Olivia, the cook for the Whitehouse café, has shocked her small southern town by marching up the courthouse steps demanding to register to vote. Because of this she is attacked from all sides, even by those closest to her heart. <b>Blessed Assurance</b> shows Olivia, and the people close to her, how her choice to stand up for her rights forces them all to confront the hatred, ignorance, and injustice of the town. &nbsp;It is a story about values, the politics of the old south, friendship, and ultimately about faith and "Blessed Assurance."</p><p>Director Kirsten Jorgensen Smith comments, “<b><i>Blessed Assurance</i></b>&nbsp;is a rare gem that often gets overlooked.&nbsp; Maybe&nbsp;it is because the title makes it sound like a religious piece.&nbsp; The main character is religious, but the focus of the play&nbsp;is on equal rights and how towns dealt with it in the 1960's.&nbsp; &nbsp;It is a reminder of how things were, how far society has grown, and that we may just end up going backwards.
