Open Space & Parks Volunteer Spring Clean Up Events

It's time for some spring cleaning!

Now through June, Open Space and Parks staff have planned some great volunteer events to spruce up the open space and parks in Louisville. So grab a pair of gloves and some sunscreen and join us to pick up debris from the Marshall Fire, pull weeds, put on a fresh coat of paint, and more! It's a great opportunity to be involved and have a positive impact on your community. Space is limited and will fill up quickly.

OPEN SPACE: Marshall Fire Debris Clean Up (age 10+)

Thursday, April 14 from 6 PM-7 PM
Hillside Open Space | meet at the Louisville Recreation & Senior Center (900 Via Appia Way)
Help us clean up debris which was blown onto Hillside Open Space during the Marshall Fire. Participants will walk the property in a grid-pattern and pick up and discard scattered trash. The City will provide trash bags, gloves, and appropriate personal protection equipment*. Registration required. 20 spots available.

OPEN SPACE: Marshall Fire Debris Clean Up (age 12+)

Saturday, April 16 from 9 AM-12 PM
Damyanovich Open Space (located on Dyer Rd.)
Help clean up debris which was blown onto Damyanovich Open Space during the Marshall Fire. Participants will walk the property in a grid-pattern and pick up and discard scattered trash or remove and salvage t-posts from damaged fencing. The City will provide trash bags, gloves, shovels, and appropriate personal protection equipment*. Registration required. 30 spots available.

OPEN SPACE: Earth Day Volunteer Event (age 10+)

Friday, April 22 from 9 AM-11 AM
Warembourg Open Space | park & meet by Dutch Creek Park (off of Adams Dr.)
Celebrate Earth Day by assisting staff with planting native shrubs on Warembourg Open Space to increase important wildlife and pollinator habitat on the property. Shovels and gloves provided. Please bring gloves and be prepared for the elements (bring water, sunscreen, pants, hat, sunglasses, no open-toed shoes). Registration required. 30 spots available.
PARKS: Trash Pickup at the Louisville Sports Complex (age 10+)
Wednesday, May 4 from 4 PM-6 PM
Louisville Sports Complex (1200 Courtesy Rd.)
Participants will walk the property and pick up the scattered trash. Registration required. 12 spots available.

OPEN SPACE: Parking Lot & Traihead Clean Up at Aquarius (age 13+) 

Thursday, May 12 from 5:30 PM -7:30 PM
Aquarius Open Space | meet and park at the Aquarius Open Space parking lot (off of Hwy 42 west of Empire Rd.)
This event will involve pothole repairs, trash pickup, and adding a fresh coat of paint on the kiosk and pavilion. Please wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty or paint on them. Registration required. 20 spots available.

PARKS: Mulch Tree Rings at the Arboretum (age 10+)

Wednesday, May 18 from 4 PM-6 PM
Arboretum | parking available at the Skate Park lot (on Via Appia)
Participants will add new mulch to the tree rings throughout the Arboretum. Registration required. 12 spots available.

OPEN SPACE: Pulling for Louisville (age 5+)

Saturday, May 21 from 11 AM-12 PM
Daughenbaugh Open Space | Park in parking lot off of Cherry St.
The Open Space Division is working hard to remove weeds on Daughenbaugh Open Space and we need your help. Learn why noxious weed management is important from 11 AM to 11:15 AM and then we will be clipping and bagging seed-heads of noxious weeds on the property.  Bring gloves and hand clippers (if you have them) and be prepared for the elements (bring water, sunscreen, pants, hat, sunglasses, no open-toed shoes). 

OPEN SPACE:  Property & Trailhead Clean Up at Harper Lake  (age 13+)

Thursday, May 26 from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM
Harper Lake Open Space (McCaslin Blvd. & Washington St.)
This event will include weeding the rock islands in the parking lot, re-painting the vault toilet, trash pick-up around the trailhead area, and trimming back vegetation in the planter beds at the underpass entrance. Please wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty or paint on them. Registration required. 15 spots available.

PARKS: Trash Pickup at Lake Park (age 10+)

Thursday, June 9 from 4 PM-6 PM
Lake Park | meet & park at Cottonwood Park (Via Appia & S. Boulder Rd.)
Participants will walk the property in a grid pattern and pick up scattered trash. Registration required. 12 spots available.
